Munich is the second most visited city in Germany after Berlin, but also, it is sometimes referred to as “the secret capital of Germany.” It is popular as a city breaks destination because of many monuments, museums and prestigious boutiques. Monuments built in the eighteenth century are masterpieces of the rococo, while in the nineteenth century the city turned to neon-classicism, as evidenced by the Königsplatz.
Munich has been deeply marked by its past under the sovereignty of Wittelsbach. Their summer home: Schloss Nymphenburg, the Residence Palace in the heart of Munich, is an eloquent witness to the wealth and importance of the princely family. The collections in local museums are particularly rich and high quality, and are attracting art lovers from all over the world.
Another advantage of Munich is its setting at the foot of the Bavarian Alps. The city is in fact only an hour’s drive of the first ski resorts. The roads are made in German quality so this will be a pleasant and smooth activity.
Participate in the Oktoberfest
This city is also characterized by a certain joy of living, as evidenced by the major event that is taking place here: the Oktoberfest. Tens of thousands of people drive from all Europe to come here and celebrate beer.
If the Beer Festival (Oktoberfest), called “Wies’n” by Munich, is probably not the best time to visit Munich, because of the crowds at this time, it is still an event that shouldn’t be missed. It is in fact the second most important event in the world in terms of attendance, after the carnival of Rio de Janeiro. Because of the crowds which invade the city every year, it is essential to pre-book your stay in Munich because accommodation is fully booked during the event.
Go to the Olympic Park
The Olympic Park is a vast complex that was built for the occasion of the 1972 Olympic Games. This site is dominated by the television tower (Olympiaturm), 290 meters high. At its peak, a viewing platform offers a magnificent view of the Alps.
These touristic attractions (the Olympic Stadium, the sports hall, stage Water) are covered with a beautiful transparent roof suspended by poles. In addition to these main facilities, the park also has an ice ring, cycling track and tennis courts. The site is not just for sports activities, but also cultural events. The artificial lake, which decorates this place, promotes the varied use of the Olympic Park.
Bars and nightclubs
Munich has an active night-life scene. Whether you prefer to see a show, enjoy a quiet drink or dance away in the night clubs, you will find something for your needs.
There is a variety of bars, where you can enjoy quiet conversation or different atmospheres depending on the music. Clubs are equally diverse, specialized institutions by music style. Whether you like rock, hip hop and electronic music, you will find clubs to satisfy your musical interests and unwind after a day of sightseeing. A classic when you discover Munich is the Hofbräuhaus, a brewery old town. We enjoy the beer in the great vaulted hall of the brewery or in the garden in summer (Beergarten).
